St Mary’s Choir
The choir at St. Mary’s has been involved in leading worship over many years and is a versatile and creative group of people who enjoy singing together and exploring different styles of music. We meet every Friday from 7.30 – 9.30pm to prepare for the Sunday services, with time for prayer, singing practice and an informal time of fellowship, usually accompanied by cups of tea and even cake!
As well as our regular Sunday worship we have Lessons and Carols at Christmas and a devotional service at Easter. There are also opportunities to join in events and services across the diocese, with neighbouring parishes and occasionally with the diocesan choir (with whom we sang recently in St. Paul’s cathedral). The musical styles are quite varied and we have sung traditional choral evensongs, contemporary Christian songs, and music from around the world to highlight themes such as mission or climate change.
Our musical director is Jo Burley who is a qualified Music Therapist and has a broad experience of music in worship from across the UK. We are always looking for new challenges and new voices and would be delighted to hear from anybody who might like to get involved. Come and meet us one Sunday, or send an e-mail to joannaburley@btinternet.com. We are flexible about musical ability, as long as you can sing in tune! Do consider joining us to experience the pleasure of singing together and offering praise to God.
